Fountain of Joshua und Caleb

Rainstrase 2, Stuttgart, Germany

Description:

The Joshua und Caleb Fountain is a small stone sculpture that is located right on the corner of the house on Reinstrasse Street. On a small pedestal in the middle of the bowl are two sculptures of naked boys who carry a huge and heavy bunch of grapes. The composition captures the biblical scene when Joshua and Khalev, after the 40th reconnaissance in the Faran desert, returned to the Israelites and Moses with a huge bunch of grapes, which were carried on the poles.

By the way, at all times the bunch of grapes was a symbol of wealth and prosperity. The sculpture was created in the early XX century, its last restoration was carried out in 1982. The fountain operates from April to September. The author of the composition is German sculptor Carl Donndorf.
