Fountain The Boy on the Pea
Marktstrase 33-39, Stuttgart, Germany
Description:
The boy on a pea is very symbolic for the city of Stuttgart and its inhabitants. Previously, water from the spring was suitable only for cooking bean dishes on it, so pea became one of the symbols. The boy, who in the future took the post of president in Germany, was the sculptor’s nephew.
During the war the fountain was completely destroyed. It was restored in 1948. Fritz von Graefenitz again began to work, and since by that time little Richard had already grown up, a copy of the fountain was created exclusively from memory.
In 2000, purification work was carried out in the water supply system, and now drinking mineral water flows from the source.
