Monastery

Stiftstraß e 12, 70173 Stuttgart, Deutschland

Description:

The monastery church is one of the symbols of the old part of Stuttgart. This is the only building in the city that has survived from the Hohenstaufen era.

The church was founded at the turn of the 10-11 centuries at the foot of the Florence Mountain and during its existence has undergone cardinal changes.

Initially, it was planned to build a church in the Romanesque style. However, in the eighteenth century it was decided to rebuild the church in the Gothic style and later in the Baroque. An echo of the reconstruction are two completely different towers, which are located on the territory of the church at the western and southern entrances.

Only recently has the church acquired its modern Romanesque style and opened its doors after a long renovation.

Today, fourteen rulers of Baden-Baden are buried in the church.

Particularly noteworthy is the epitaph on the tomb of Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden. It is decorated with small sculptures that symbolize courage, courage, wisdom and justice.
