Trira City Library
Stadtbibliothek Trier, Weberbach 25, 54290 Trier, Germany
Description:
The City Library of Trier is a building recognized as an architectural monument. The library contains many of the oldest books. In 1560, the collection of books of the Jesuit monastery added to the collection of the library and made up a large part of it. At one time, the library provided the necessary books for the use of the University of Trier. In addition, the library has a valuable archive, inaccessible to readers.
The library building, which has survived to this day, was built in five years - from 1955 to 1960, by the architect A. Lightl. It is a five-story structure made in the shape of a cube. The reading room was built separately in the form of a two-storey extension.
The collection of the City Library of Trier today has about 413,000 books, 2,600 manuscripts and 2,500 first-print editions. A significant number of books are devoted to the history of Trier and Moselle, as well as winemaking.
