Karl Marx House Museum

Johannisstra ß e 28, 54290 Trier, Deutschland

About the company:

The Karl Marx House is a historical landmark of Trier. It has well-preserved apartments of the famous world scientist, economist, philosopher and writer, who left a big mark in science and economy of all countries. He was born there and spent the first years of his life.

In fact, this building never belonged to the economist’s family, as even before his birth, his father rented a house. Karl Marx lived there until 1835, when he left for his family.

In 1928, the building was bought by the German Social Democratic Party in order to create a museum, which was opened only in 1947, as the war with the Nazis postponed the restoration of the building.

Karl Marx’s house now serves as a repository for his works and photographs. The things of the economist and his family could not be saved, since they were all destroyed during the Third Reich. On the ground floor there is a souvenir shop where everyone can buy books, accessories and even wine as a memory of the visit.
