Description:
Wismar is a port city on the Baltic Sea. The historic city center with its mansions and temples is a UNESCO cultural heritage. The city has not changed its structure since the 13th century. 300 buildings are monuments of architecture. After the Thirty Years’ War, Wismar belonged to Sweden for a long time, as some buildings and traditions in the city speak of today.
In the Middle Ages, Wismar specialized in the trade of beer, herring, grain, hops and malt. Every year in Wismar there is a big holiday - "Days of Herring". And Wismar beer was very popular in Portugal, Spain and Russia.
We will start our tour of the city with the old harbor, where fishermen settled today. During the day, you can buy fresh and smoked fish directly from the boats moored here.
We will see the only surviving old brewery in the city, where you can look after or during the tour.
We will walk along the banks of the oldest canal in Germany and admire the unusual house "Variers". We'll visit St. Nicholas Church.
On our way there will be a funny “pig bridge”, the house of the mayor and brewer Shabel, the first department store of the founder of the trading empire Rudolf Karstadt, Town Hall Square, the Gothic quarter with its historical buildings and much more.
