Fairy Hamelin - at the intersection of roads
Description:
We called our note “at the intersection of roads”, as the wonderful town of Hamelin can enter several tours at once: this is the “German fairy road”, and “Weather Renaissance Road”, and a tour of Northern Germany. But regardless of the name of the tour, Hamelin is worthy of your visit! This city on the full-flowing Weser River has a complex and long history - already in the middle of the IX century. the Abbey of Hamal was mentioned. Let us not enumerate all the twists of fate and all the masters who have owned cities over the centuries. It is important that Hamelin was lucky to become the birthplace of the world’s most famous German fairy tale – the legend of the rat-catcher. It is this simple story, wandering through the literatures of the world, attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. After all, the event that occurred in the city on June 26, 1284 (recorded in the chronicle!) still has no other explanation than a fabulous one. Until now, every day the clock with bells in the city center reminds of the arrival of the ratcatcher, every summer scenes from the fairy tale are played out, and for the 750th anniversary of the unforgettable event, the European Union has allocated huge funds for the “project of the century”. Hundreds of houses in the city center were sanitized, bridges were moved. Taking into account the fact that during the Second World War the city was practically not damaged, and that in the XVI - XVII centuries it was one of the richest cities on Weser, you can imagine how much beauty awaits guests of Hamelin today! This is not only a half-timbered house that we love in Germany, but also magnificent houses in the style of the Weser Renaissance - the style is very rare and is presented, as the name suggests, only in the valley of this river (you can continue the topic, exploring other towns nearby). If you want to continue the fabulous theme, go to Bodenverder, to visit Baron Munchausen! Come to Hamelin and you will not regret it, because not so often we have a chance to be in a real fairy tale.
