Tour: Argolida-Golden Ring of Greece (10 hours)
Description:
After leaving Athens, we make a mandatory stop at the Corinth Canal. This canal connects two seas – the Ionian and the Aegean. Passing this channel, we will be able to see the theater of Epidaurus, which is famous for its excellent acoustics. After Epidaurus, we enter the ancient city of Nafplion, which is the first capital of Greece after the long-term occupation of Greek territory by Ottoman troops.
The last stop will be the stunning city of legends – Mycenae. Epidaurus is the first major stop in Greek history. In ancient times, Epidaurus was a city – a metropolis. The city was the sanctuary of the god of medicine Asclepius and a large medical center. The tools, which were the property of Greek doctors, have been preserved and are now in the Archaeological Museum. But the city worked not only in the medical direction, it was also developing musically, a stadium and a theater were built for various festivals and music competitions, fragments of which have survived to this day.
After Epidaurus, the tour will take place in Ancient Mycenae, where tourists will be able to see the ruins of the ancient city, the sites of royal burials, most of which were found by the great archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to see the palace of the lords of Mycenae, the well-known burial of Agamemnon. After exploring these sights, we will move to the city of Nafpillion, the path to which will follow through the Lion’s Gate. Nafpilion is located at the foot of the mountains, and the unique fortress of Pilamidi will make your feelings from the excursion even more vivid and memorable. Around the city, peacefully, without rivalry or enmity, Muslim mosques and Orthodox churches coexist as a sign of tolerance of religions in Greece.
