Athens

Sightseeing tour of Athens

Description:

This is a rich walking tour, during which you will get acquainted with the greatest archaeological sites and the most colorful corners of the modern city. We will begin our journey with the main attraction of Athens – the majestic Acropolis. Here you will see the theater of Dionysus - the oldest stage in Europe, the temple of Asclepius - the god of medicine, and the odeon of Herodes Atticus, where open-air concerts are still held. We will pass through the monumental Propylaea, admire the Parthenon - a symbol of Greek civilization, and the mysterious Erechtheion with caryatids. And from the top of the hill in front of us will open an unforgettable panorama of the huge modern Athens.

Descending from the Acropolis, we will find ourselves in the picturesque old quarters of the city. The narrow streets of Plaki and the snow-white staircases of Anafiotika remind of the traditional Cycladic villages. We will make a short stop - at the request of guests - to have a coffee or a mug of cold beer in a cozy tavern on the steps of Mnesikla Street.

Then the route will lead us to the ancient shopping areas. We will see the “Tower of Winds” – a unique ancient Greek clock, a Roman agora, as well as the ruins of Hadrian’s Library. We will walk past the ancient Greek agora, see the restored Attalus stand and the preserved temple of Hephaestus.

Next we will walk to Monastiraki Square, see one of the oldest churches in the city and the Ottoman mosque. Our tour will end near the cathedral of Athens.
