Church of Righteous John the Russian in Neoprocopion The church in the name of St. John the Russian in Neoprokopion began to be built around 1930, on the bicentennial anniversary of the memory of the saint, and finished by 1951. After the great consecration of the temple on the day of memory of the saint, May 27, 1951, a silver crust specially made for the relics of the saint was installed in the temple, where fragrant holy relics rest under glass (before this, the relics temporarily rested in the ancient church of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine and Helena, located there, in Neoprokopion). Unfortunately, the ancient temple of St. John the Russian in Cappadocia Procopion (in Urgup) was destroyed by the Turks between 1948 and 1952, when Greece demanded that the UN describe all Greek historical and cultural monuments in Turkey; today only the entrance door that adorns the entrance to the Urgup City Hall remains from the destroyed temple. On the site of the demolished temple, the Turks then built a school, but today they greatly regret this, since Urgyup gradually becomes the leading pilgrimage and tourist center of modern Cappadocia due to the fact that St. John the Russian asceticized here. The rector of the Church of St. John the Russian in Neoprocopion, Archpriest John Vernezos, who has been serving here for almost half a century, told us that the temperature of the holy relics corresponds to the temperature of the body of a living person and that St. John himself usually informs the Temple when he is supposed to change the chiton (re-exposing), and this happens very rarely (unlike, for example, from St. Spyridon of Trimifunt, whose holy relics on the island of Corfu are exposed annually). It usually happens this way. The saint visits righteous people in a dream (and in various parts of the world - America, Australia, Europe) and tells them that it is necessary to inform the Neoprocopion about the need to re-expose the holy relics: "I am John the Russian, go to my Church and tell the priest that it is time to change my clothes." After that, people go to Neoprocopion or write letters, and Father John Vernezos says that letters come from everywhere.
Monastery of St. David
The monastery of St. David of Euboea was founded in 1540. At first it was called Transfiguration, but after the death of the monk began to bear his name. By God’s providence, despite numerous destructions and periods of decline, the monastery is today in a flourishing state. To the south of it, a 20-minute walk has also been preserved, where the Monk David spent the last years of his life five days a week. On the site of his cell is now a church in the name of the Hieromartyr Charalampius. Unfortunately, the temple, built five centuries ago during the life of the monk, has not survived, since in the early 19th century it was destroyed by Turkish invaders. At that time, the monastery was severely destroyed at their hands. The new Transfiguration Church was built only in 1887 and for a long time was not painted in the interior. Only after 2000 did the brothers complete the painting of the temple. What comes in
