Monument to Socrates at the Academy of Sciences
Description:
Monument to the greatest Greek philosopher (470-399 BC), who lived and worked in Athens. His students were Plato, Xenophon, Alcibiades, and others. Socrates left no written legacy, so his views can be judged only on the basis of their reflections in the writings of other Greek philosophers, but the philosophical credo of Socrates retained his famous phrase: "I know that I know nothing, but others do not know it."
Socrates was sentenced to death on charges of atheism and, refusing to escape from prison, courageously drank the cup of zikuta offered to him.
