Museum of Greek Folk Art
Kydatineon, 17, Athens, Greece
About the company:
The exposition of the museum is located on four floors. On the first floor there are objects of decorative and applied arts. The second floor is usually reserved for temporary exhibitions, there is only one permanent exhibition here - works by the Greek primitivist painter Theophil Hacimichail (for example, frescoes from his house in Mytilini on the island of Lesbos).
The third floor is devoted to exhibitions on religious and secular topics: on the one hand, there are household items, weapons and women's jewelry - rings, earrings, buckles, etc., on the other - robes, crosses, vessels for communion and other sacred objects. On the attic floor there is a rich collection of Greek folk costumes.
As in most museums in Greece, educational programs and master classes (sculpting from clay, shadow theater) are organized here.
The museum owns a large photo and sound archive, as well as a library with more than 5 thousand volumes on art, museology and ethnology.
