Herakleidon Museum

Herakleidon 16, Thissio, 118 51 Athens, Greece

About the company:

The Herakleidon Museum is a small private museum of contemporary art located in Athens. The museum combines the aesthetics of art with the logic of mathematics.

The museum was founded in 2004 by Paul and Belinda Firos, who decided to focus the museum’s activities on education and learning and focus on a productive dialogue between science and the arts in order to significantly broaden the horizons of the public.

The entire ground floor of the museum is occupied by an exhibition of works by the French artist Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), who is everywhere recognized as the father of op art.

The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the works of the Dutch graphic artist Maurice Cornelis Escher (1898-1972), whose works scientists interpret in mathematical terms.

Beginning in the 1950s, he gained supporters among scientists and mathematicians. To this day, his work is a symbolic bridge between art and science.
