Spiros Vasiliu Museum
About the company:
A little south of the Acropolis, on Webster Street, there is a magnificent house in which once worked and lived the famous Greek artist Spiros Vasiliu. Relatives of the painter initiated the creation of the museum so that people interested in his work could see how Vasiliu lived and worked. Also, the purpose of creating this museum was to popularize the artist’s work.
The museum opened in 2004. In addition to the paintings, you can see the personal belongings of the creator and his workshop, as well as get acquainted with his life. Until 1985, the artist lived in Athens, where he received an art education. One of his first works was the decoration of the church building of Agios Dionysios Areopagitis.
From the windows of the museum there is a magnificent view of the Acropolis, which became the background for many paintings on which Spiros depicted the lives of ordinary people. His canvases are excellent scenes from the daily life of citizens, as well as cozy urban landscapes, made in a surreal style.
