Delphi is the navel of the earth
Description:
Description of the tour in two words.
Athens - Delphi 2.5 - 3 hours, including a sanitary stop and a stop for a photo shoot in Arakhova. Then the excursion (about 3 hours), lunch (optional) and the return move the same way.
Pythia, Delphic Oracle
People want to know their future. This is an immutable law of the human psyche (as well as the inability to dispose of this knowledge in the future). According to ancient descriptions, at the Delphic sanctuary in ancient times, when the oracle was addressed, apparently, only once a year, there were two "regular" pythians and one of their deputies. Pythia was a priestess, the god Apollo. She was preparing for divination with a three-day fast and ablution in the Kastal spring. Before divination, she put on luxurious clothes, laid a laurel wreath on her head, drank water from the spring of Cassotis and chewed the leaf of the sacred laurel.
Then, falling into ecstasy from the intoxicating fumes from the crevice of the rock, prophesied. The Pythias often uttered incoherent words, which were clothed by the Delphic priests in the form of the prophecies of Apollo, or in the form of verses, were rearranged and interpreted by the priests, and then transmitted in obscure, vague or ambiguous terms to the questioners of the oracle. Hence the expression “speaks like a pythia” – to speak confusingly, ambiguously, but beautifully. How can you not believe such a woman?
Delphic complex (excursion 2.5-3 hours)
We begin the tour with the Castal Key (sung by Pushkin). According to legend, the waters of this mountain spring have a rejuvenating effect (tested on many tourists).
Sacred road. We will walk along the Sacred Road (an analogue of a modern exhibition center) where ancient cities built their treasuries, showing the whole of Greece the wealth and greatness of each individual Polis. The construction of many treasuries was timed to some important event in ancient Greece, respectively, I will not so much tell as vividly show the history of Greece.
The navel. In Delphi was the center of the universe for the ancient Greeks. Zeus once decided to calculate where the center of the world is located, naturally the center was in Greece and of course in Delphi. If you think about it, there are a lot of navels around the world, because every ancient or very large people considers themselves the navel of world history, we Greeks are not an exception in this.
The Temple of Apollo. The place where Pythia (the most famous drug addict of antiquity) predicted. The temple was once inscribed with the philosophical theses of ancient Greek sages. Amphitheater located in the bosom of the rocks of the Fedriads temple, primarily in view of the panorama of the Pythian valley, fascinates.
The theater, stadium and many other monuments will also appear to your eye. If you know how to appreciate history, then you just need to see Delphi firsthand.
The Delphic Museum is one of the most important in the world in terms of the quality of exhibits. Thank God in Greece there is no such cultural schizophrenia as dragging all the most significant exhibits into the central archaeological museum of the country as an elite "storage". Civilization was dispersed in antiquity and today in Greece there is a maximum reference to the terrain in terms of exhibiting finds.
In the Delphic Museum you can see one of the best statues of Greek art - the Delphic charioteer. This statue could decorate not only Athens but also any elite museum in the world. We have this beauty in Parnassus, where it has always been.
