Archaeological Museum in Delphi
About the company:
The exposition of the Delphic Archaeological Museum is the most extensive in Hellas. And this is not surprising: in ancient times, Delphi was an extremely rich and important city. Here was the sanctuary of Apollo, in which treasuries were built, where gifts to the god Apollo from various city-states were stored.
The museum occupies a two-storey building with a total area of 2270 square meters, which housed 14 exhibition halls. They exhibit single statues and sculptural compositions, made and materials such as marble, bronze, gold and ivory.
The most valuable exhibit of the museum is the beautifully preserved bronze statue “Delphian charioteer”. Experts believe that this is a fragment of a large sculptural composition depicting a charioteer, a chariot and horses harnessed in it. The date of manufacture is supposedly 478 – 474 BC, and captured the winner of the Pythian games of 478 in the competition among chariots. In addition to the Voznicheskoye, the Delphic Museum is famous for its sculpture “Three Dancing Girls”. There are also statues of the god Apollo and the goddess Artemis, made of ivory and gold and many other exhibits are extremely interesting to see.
