Here secret rites were organized - the Eleusinian mysteries - thanks to which people joined the knowledge of the secrets that awaited them in the other world, and death for them became no longer terrible. How the priests managed to achieve such success remains a secret to this day. The city of Eleusis from the sixth century BC belonged to the city-state of Athens. The Eleusis Valley, or Phryasia pedias, was the breadbasket for the Athenians.

The church is surrounded by cells of nuns and novices who serve the Virgin. With attention and warmth, the sisters meet pilgrims aspiring here. Visiting the monastery, we will learn what the life of monasticism and the life of the monastery, better get acquainted with the culture of Christianity. From the territory of the monastery we will have a beautiful view of the whole district.
