The White Mountains of Levka Ori

9, Vassilissis Sofia Avenue

Description:

The White Mountains (Levka Ori) are considered the largest mountain range on the island of Crete. The length of the ridge is 40 kilometers. The highest point of Pakhnes is 2453 meters. Mountains are located in the southwestern part of the island.

The name is derived from the white snowy peaks (until June, all 50 peaks, called Sori, are covered with snow). Climbing the mountains is difficult because of the large stones and gravel. It will take good physical training to hike the mountains. On the southern slopes grow cypresses and pine trees, deciduous trees, live rare species of fauna, including endemics. At the foot of Sori are karst funnels, unique geological formations. There are mountain stops where you can relax. Caves, cliffs, gorges, canyons attract tourists and extreme lovers here.

You can get there by car or by tour bus - from the north to Omalos or through the Askifu plateau to Chora.
