Cave of St. Sophia
Description:
The main attraction of the cave of the Wisdom of God is a small chapel of St. Sophia. It was erected in 1875. This structure has no architectural excesses or decorations, except for a small number of frescoes and a dozen icons. Thanks to this, the cave looks quite impressive. In comparison with a small chapel, it looks majestic cathedral of natural origin. The width is 25 meters, the height, somewhere, reaches 20 meters.
In the cave you can see large clusters of stalactites and stalagmites. Fascinating natural formations amaze with their diversity. Sharks’ teeth and animal figures are the most bizarre shapes they take. There is a stalactite that resembles a mythical unicorn. Some stalactites have a height of 6 meters, which makes you think about the greatness of nature.
How to get there
The attraction is located in Greece, in the west of the island of Crete. The reference point is the tunnel in the Topoli Gorge (a few kilometers from the village of Topolia). To the right of it is the cave of St. Sophia.
