Cornaru Square
Description:
Cornaru Square is at the top of the market. On the square under the branches of trees there is a cozy cafe, where you can sit in the cool on the hot days of sunny Heraklion.
Behind the café tables, there is a view with the beautiful Venetian Fountain of Bembo, probably one of the oldest in the city. The Bembo Fountain was built in 1588 by the Venetian architect Zuanne Bembo. It is decorated with decorated columns, Venetian coats of arms and a statue devoid of a head, which was brought from Ierapetra. At one time, people believed that the statue had supernatural powers, and in May religious rituals were organized in his honor.
