Heraklion

Port of Heraklion

Description:

Heraklion is the capital and the so-called gate of Crete, the main city and the largest port on the island. It is the piers of Heraklion that greet tourists from all over the world. This is the most important transport hub of Europe, which connects Asia, Africa and Europe.

The city historically grew out of an ancient harbor, the former center of the Minoan civilization. Today Heraklion is the fifth largest city in Greece, which is a huge metropolis with its own airport, seaport, major museums and major universities.

The port plays a huge role for the city and the whole of Greece. It is an important cargo and tourist transport hub, which receives hundreds of ships and vessels every day. There are hundreds of snow-white yachts and small sailing vessels moored here, many fishing boats and small boats that unload their catch every morning. And against the background of all this, the hromadas of tourist liners frozen motionlessly.
