In Search of Homeric Pylos

Description:

We will begin our search, going to the reception in the palace of the wisest participant of the Trojan War - Nestor, where we learn the oldest, prehistoric Greek civilization - Mycenaean. According to the Iliad and the Odyssey, despite his old age, Nestor was brave and tireless and enjoyed universal love and respect, surpassing all experience and prudence. Today, the palace of Nestor is the best preserved palace of the Mycenaean era, for historians and archaeologists it is simply priceless!

Then, saying goodbye to Nestor, we drive south, past the Bay of Navarino, where Nestor hid his ships going to Troy. We will continue our journey through the unexplored Russian-speaking Messenian land to storm two fortresses.

The southernmost point of our journey is Methoni, a Venetian fortress of the early 13th century. Did you know that Greece has its own Bermuda Triangle? We'll find him, too!

By lunchtime, having conquered Methoni, we will celebrate the victory in the fish tavern near Navarin Bay, overlooking the Messen Islands. Here, in the picturesque seaside Pylos, its own citadel is the Ottoman fortress Neokastro, founded in the 16th century, and three wonderful boutique museums! From the port of Pylos, you can organize a wonderful cruise to the Messen Islands and lagoons with swimming and lunch. (The fortress is closed on Monday.)
