Meteoras - soaring monasteries in the air

Meteora is a place where God’s providence meets a unique natural landscape. Where the strength of the human spirit and the desire for knowledge led to the triumph of creation and harmony.

Medieval Orthodox monasteries of Meteora, located on the steep cliffs of the Thessaly Plain, are rightly considered one of the most significant historical, Orthodox and cultural sites in Greece.

The second most important monastic complex of Greece (after the monastic republic of St. Athos) annually attracts a large number of travelers from all over the world. And it is not surprising that Meteora monasteries are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

It will be interesting to visit the Church of St. Paraskeva in the Tempi Gorge, which is a unique natural object, where for centuries the most important geopolitical events took place, largely determined the course of history.

Until 1920, building materials, food and the monks themselves were raised to the top of the Meteorsky cliffs in special networks using a winch;

Despite its uniqueness, Meteor rocks are not mentioned in the texts of ancient historians and authors.
