The Cathedral of St. Andrew the First-Called is the second largest in the Balkans and the largest Orthodox church in Greece, seating up to 6,000 people. In the cathedral, in the silver ark, the Honest Head of the Apostle Andrew and particles of the cross are kept, on which the apostle was martyred, inserted into the cross of the form “X”. Inside, the cathedral is decorated with marble, mosaics and frescoes in the Byzantine style.

A huge impressive image of the Virgin with outstretched hands, made of mosaics, meets visitors in the depths of the Cathedral, and under the forty-meter dome the image of Jesus Christ is also made of mosaics.

You will visit the square where the Apostle Andrew preached, at the place of his execution, learn about his life, apostolic service in the city of Patras and martyrdom. Near the Cathedral is the old Temple of St. Andrew the First-Called, which also holds a service.

The Old Temple of the Apostle Andrew was built between 1836 and 1843 on the site of the ruins of an ancient temple destroyed by the Turko-Albanians in 1770. In the Temple are kept the relics of the holy Apostle - a particle of his finger. The iconography of the ceilings of the temple depicts in full growth the saints of the church, including the Apostle Andrew.

Near the old Temple, A. The First-Revived is struck by a holy spring from which you can drink and even take water with you, if you prepare a small container for it in advance.

The Old Church of the Apostle Andrew is a special monument of the city of Patras, because it is not only a place of worship, but also an artistic monument of special value.
