Kavala

A trip to Kavala – a trip with maximum impact

Description:

A trip to Kavala is a journey.

It’s about time travel, an experience worth acquiring. Before we begin our acquaintance with the old city, we will stop for a moment and enjoy the charming amphitheater picture of the city, the views of the fortress, Imaret, cobbled streets, beautiful neoclassical buildings, the play of the sun with the sea and only then slowly begin to wander around the old city. In the old town, you find yourself stuck for a long time - after all, there is an opportunity to try the freshest seafood and snacks in the picturesque taverns and only then continue your journey. A little further - the center of the old town, Mehmet Ali Square, his mansion and bronze monument. Next - one of the most beautiful temples of the Virgin, a lighthouse and a beautiful view of the city.

The fortress of Kavala is located on the top of a hill-rock and proudly stands there, being the eternal defender of the city. A famous historical monument, an integral part of the old city is Kamares (aqueduct), built during the reign of Suleiman the Majestic to supply water to the rocky part of the peninsula.

Kavala is a call to pilgrims, a long sacred excitement, because here religious experiences follow one another. You can imagine yourself indoors among those attending the first Christian sermon in Europe, the sermon of the Apostle Paul.

17 km from Kavala are the ruins of the city of Philippa. Excavations still continue to reveal significant finds, such as parts of the Path of Egnatius, the ruins of the Roman Agora, early Christian churches and ancient theater.
