Kavala Castle
Description:
Kavala Castle was built in 1425. The size of the castle is 65 meters in length and in width from 17 to 60 meters. On the outer wall of the castle there are two square towers located in the northern corners, a polygon in the middle of the east side and a bastion in the southeast corner. In the southern part of the castle there were water tanks, ammunition, food warehouses and garrison buildings.
During the War of 1821, an ammunition depot that has survived to this day was used as a prison for revolutionaries. There are two entrances to the castle. The castle is now used for various cultural events and is a distinctive feature of the city of Kavala.
