The Gulf of Corinth in ancient times was called Lepanto Bay. It is a part of the Ionian Sea with a length of 130 kilometers. In some places, the width reaches 32 kilometers. One of the deepest parts of the sea. It is located between the Peloponnese and the mainland. There are seismically dangerous zones. It formed between two tectonic plates as a result of a fault. It is famous for the fact that in the 16th century there was a major battle, which ended the rule of the Turks. Along the bay are large cities - Delphi, Corinth, Loutraki and others. A giant bridge was built over it. It has a very complex design. During its construction, its location was taken into account. The bridge was opened for the start of the Olympic Games in Greece. You can get there by ferry. A lot of sea walks with a call into the bay are also offered.
