Description:
The Monastery of Blessed Potapia is located 15 kilometers from the city of Loutraki, at an altitude of 700 meters. To reach it, you need to overcome 144 steps. But you will be awarded a beautiful view of the surroundings of Loutraki and Carinth, which opens from the observation deck. There's a lot of energy here. It is named in honor of the holy wonderworker Potapius, whose life was devoted to prayer and help to Christians. He has many healings of people from plague, blindness, dropsy. Potapius' wish was to bury him in the Gerenees Mountains, where a monastery was later established in his honor. And although the building is relatively new (dating back to the 50s of the twentieth century), it is built in the style of Byzantine architecture. The relics of the saint are in the cave, because the locals at one time wanted to hide them from desecration by the Turks. On the walls of the cave there are paintings dating back to the 15th century.
The monastery is active, it is home to forty nuns engaged in farming. From Loutraki, you can reach the foot of the mountain by car or taxi.
