Lake Iraiou is known for its unique healing properties. It is located near Athens and is little known to most tourists. The lake is big and deep. According to ancient legends, the lake was a favorite place of the goddess Athena. The healing qualities of water are contained in hot underground springs. The water contains sulfur, and the water temperature even in winter does not fall below 21 degrees Celsius. The lake is located 100 meters from the Mediterranean Sea.
The combination of hot water and sulfur gives an amazing therapeutic effect. Geographically, the lake is in a depression, which is formed in the rock. According to some assumptions, the depression is the crater of a pre-existing volcano. The lake is surrounded by bizarre yellow rocks with age-old plants – eucalyptus. When hot water evaporates, it soaks up eucalyptus vapors and produces healing air.
