Church Museum

milos, Greece

About the company:

The church museum is located in the Holy Trinity Temple on the island of Milos, Greece. Its exposition includes samples of centuries-old artistic heritage. It contains ancient icons and wood carvings from the period of financial prosperity of the island, which was then under the rule of the Venetians.

The church museum includes icons from the 14th century, among them one of the world famous, which displays the body of Christ taken from the cross. She was brought here from a Cretan school. There are also several unique paintings by Emmanuel and Antonios Skordilis, Cretan artists who began their brilliant career on the island in 1647 and created a new style in post-Byzantine painting based on copper engraving.

In the exhibition halls of the museum you can find the bishop’s throne and iconostasis dating from the 17th century, as well as silver bowls, censers, gold rings, necklaces and earrings – which testifies to the high artistic level and conveys a picture of the local religious folklore of that century.
