Nafplio

Solar Argolis

Description:

This is a walking tour of the most iconic places of Greek history.

We will begin with a visit to the ancient Mycenae – a powerful city whose king led the Greeks in the legendary campaign to Troy. In this place come to life the myths of Perseus, Heracles and Agamemnon. You will learn how ancient tales intertwine with real archaeological finds and historical facts. We will see the royal palace, quarters of the ancient city and monumental tombs. In the Museum of Mycenae we will talk about how the society of the Bronze Age was arranged, how palace civilizations functioned and how people actually lived in those distant times.

Next we go to Epidaurus. According to legend, it was here that the god of medicine Asclepius was born, so in antiquity the main hospital of all Greece was located here. However, the best preserved in this place is the ancient theater, which is the main purpose of our visit. It is considered the best preserved in the world, and its stunning acoustics still serve as living proof of the incredible skill of ancient engineers and mathematicians.

Our route will end in Nafplion, one of the most picturesque cities in the country and the first capital of modern Greece. We will walk through the intricate cobbled streets among neat houses with floral balconies and cozy cafes. This city is also rich in history, but from later eras: you will learn about the rule of the Franks, the power of the Venetians and the legacy of the Ottoman period.

There are three fortresses in Nafplion. We will climb one of them by car to enjoy the panorama of the city, which, as if on a postcard, crashes a peninsula with tiled roofs into the azure waters of the Argos Bay.

The city also has an amazing beauty beach surrounded by rocks, overlooking the fortresses and with all the necessary amenities. And, of course, during the tour you will have time to dine in one of the charming local taverns, where you can taste fresh seafood and Greek cuisine.
