Palamidi Fortress

Nafpalion, Pelopones, Greece

Description:

At the top of the Palamidi hill, in southern Greece, stretches a powerful fortress with bastions. The fortress complex is located near the city of Nafplion. The hill is 216 meters above sea level. For 450 meters along the bay stretch the walls of the fortress.

Throughout its history, the fortress changed hands. The Venetians were replaced by the Turks, then by the Greeks.

To the fortress from the city leads a winding staircase of 913 steps. Bastions are located at different heights and each has its own name. From the height of the hill there is a stunning beauty view of the surrounding area.

For many years Palamidi bastions served as prisons.

Currently, Palamidi Fortress is a historical site that attracts many tourists.

You can get to the fortress on foot (on the steps), or by car.
