About the company:
The Museum of Childhood is a small part of the Museum of Greek Folk Art. It so happened that since the founding of the Museum of Art, its collection was replete with children's toys, costumes, jewelry, pieces of furniture made by hand. In 1982, the first seminar was held in Napfilona, the task of which was to create educational programs for children in the museum. It was at this meeting that it was decided to open the Children’s Museum in cooperation with the local authorities. It was the first museum in Greece of this kind.
In 1989, after exploring similar museums in Europe, the Museum "Station" was opened in Nafplion. Its exposition consisted of objects belonging to children from ancient times to the present day. The first exhibition "Children and Toys" was created on the basis of objects used for various games in the village and city among different segments of the population. Some were made outside Greece and some were made by children themselves. Most toys date from the interwar period and the 1950s. The collection also features recreated ancient toys and their later prototypes. From the toy you can determine the difference between rich families and poor, between Greeks and foreigners. Most of the collection consists of various dolls and their costumes.
Due to the difficult financial situation of the museum, grants for research conducted by the museum have recently been canceled, as well as the cost of admission has increased. Persons over the age of 12 must now pay 2 euros to enter.
