Bellonia Tower
Eparchiaki Odos Galanadou-Sagkriou, Naxos ke Mikres Kiklades 84300, Greece
Description:
Bellonia Tower is a tower of Bellonia, which is a tall and elegant stone structure square shape. The tower is located in the village of Galanado, just a few kilometers from the city of Naxos. The tower offers a stunning view of the entire island.
The towers were originally built on the island to protect against pirates. They could hide in shelters, and use as an alarm. Strategically, the towers were located throughout the island in such a way that if attacked, the roof of the damaged tower was lit by fire and was the first in a chain reaction. From tower to tower, the fire alerted the islanders to an enemy attack.
Next to the tower is the Church of St. John with two altars - one for Orthodox and one for Catholics.
