The Church of the Mother of God of refreshing power
Description:
The Church of the Mother of God of refreshing power is located near the settlement of Moni, 15 kilometers from Chora. Refers to the Byzantine period, the date of construction scientists call the 7th century. The unique frescoes that have survived to our time also belong to this period. Particularly noteworthy are the works of the 9th century – the image of St. George on the altar and the painting of the dome “Christ the Almighty”. According to legend, the church is named after the Virgin, because after painting the fresco with her image in the country stopped the drought, which lasted a very long time. Experts behind the marble screen discovered a carved iconostasis of wood, which is a unique historical monument. The temple is made of stone. Open to tourists. If the door is locked, just call the caretaker to open a unique shrine.
You can get there by rented car from Chora in the south direction, by bus or paid tourist transfer.
