Nisyros Volcano Island: A Journey to the Center of the Earth

An unusual adventure awaits you on the island of Nisyros, which today remains an active volcano. Its black and gray rocks with red intersperses are especially spectacularly distinguished against the blue sky and the blue surface of the sea. The main attraction of the island is the crater of the volcano: white ash with colored inclusions is decorated with numerous fumaroles, from which the clubs of a dormant giant pair rise, and bright yellow sulfur crystals form bizarre “plants”, creating the impression of an alien landscape.
Acquaintance with the geology of Nisyros will continue in the Museum of Volcanology, where you will learn about the structure of the Earth, the nature of volcanoes, the causes of Nisyros and its evolution. A car tour of the island will allow you to see natural hammam and picturesque villages located on frozen lava after past eruptions.
The history of the island will open in the town of Mandraki, where original houses coexist with the ancient walls of the time of Alexander the Great, demonstrating a unique combination of nature and history.
