Patmos - Island of the Apocalypse

Description:

The price includes:

The island of Apocalypse - Patmos is considered one of the most important places for Christian pilgrims from around the world. This small island, modest in vegetation, once became the place of exile of John the Theologian. In the cave where the Evangelist lived, Revelation was revealed to him, which was included in one of the four books of the New Testament. During the tour, we will visit this cave and will be able to touch the shrine, which John the Theologian himself touched with his head and hand.

The next stop will be the Fortress Monastery of John the Theologian. We will explore its buildings, visit the temple, where services have been held for more than 1000 years, see unique frescoes and icons, and touch the relics of saints, carefully stored in the walls of the monastery. In the monastery museum you will get acquainted with relics: scrolls, books, icons and gifts brought here over the centuries. Particular attention is drawn to the icon of El Greco “Groom”, the curtain of Count Orlov, the icon “Apocalypse” and the Golden Bull of the Byzantine emperor.

No less exciting will be a walk through the village of Chora, located at the foot of the monastery. Here we will visit the house of the XVII century Samartiri family, where many relics tell about the history of Patmos and its inhabitants are stored.

The tour will end with a walk around the island with a view of the picturesque natural corners, where you can enjoy the beauty of Patmos and its unique atmosphere.
