Christian Rhodes: science, art, religion, monasticism
Description:
A trip to the Christian shrines of Rhodes with a Russian-speaking guide will introduce you to the monasteries and temples of the island, revealing the centuries-old traditions of local Orthodoxy.
The starting point will be the Monastery of the Virgin Tsambika. Here you will touch the holy image of the Virgin, which for centuries was considered the last hope for Christian families in prayers for children.
Next we will visit the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in the village of Asklepio. His frescoes tell about the mysterious book of the Gospel – the Apocalypse of John the Theologian. You will see the Four Horsemen, the Beast, the Whore of Babylon, the trumpeting Angels, the Lamb of God and 7 churches.
A special stop is touching the image of Saint Panteleimon during the prayer service with the removal of particles of his relics, which will be an important spiritual moment of the trip.
The monastery of Archangel Michael, with a thousand-year history, will allow you to look into the monastic life of Greece. Here we will visit the Museum of Icon Painting, which houses a rich collection of Byzantine art.
In the high-mountain village, we are waiting for a tasting of a traditional Easter Greek dish, after which we will visit the Temple of the Honest Cross. Here we will take part in a small prayer service with the removal of a particle of the Cross, to which you can attach and receive the blessing of a parish priest - according to legend, a real saint.
