About the city of Rhodes with a visit to the Palace and Archeols. museum

Description:

A walking tour of Rhodes in Russian is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the history of the island and Greece as a whole. The tour has a historical and archaeological character and covers the period from the Neolithic era to chivalric times.

We will begin our journey with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, where you can learn about the development of the island since the Minotaur and the Trojan War. You will be immersed in the matriarchal traditions of the ancients, as well as their transition to a patriarchal society. We will explore Rhodes’ connection with Egypt and the Middle East, the development of sculpture and pottery, and how the ancient Greeks lived, worshiped gods, traded and entertained.

The next important milestone in our journey will be the era of the knighthood of Rhodes. We’re going to talk about Christian knights, their role in medicine and how this organization came to be on the island. Learn how the Maltese Order of Knights originated in Rhodes, who they are, how they fought the Ottomans, as well as with mythical monsters.

Knights Street will take us into the structure of the order and reveal their history, and the Palace of the Grand Master will tell about the intersection of the Middle Ages and Fascism in Rhodes. Here we will discuss the Italian occupation, the role of the Grand Master and the connection with Greek myths.

Fortification of the city of Rhodes is a separate theme of our excursion. The walls of the city, built with the latest military engineering, many times defended the island, and Suleiman the Magnificent lost many of his troops here.

The port of Mandraki will conclude our tour, where we will talk about the Colossus of Rhodes - one of the seven wonders of the world, which more than two thousand years ago decorated the city.

This tour with a Russian-speaking guide will be a great start for exploring the history of Rhodes.
