Monastery of St. Dionysius of Olympia – Meteora

Description:

Excursion to the monastery of St. Dionysius on Olympus and the monasteries of Meteora is a one-day route, which on the one hand will acquaint you with the centuries-old Orthodox history of Greece, and on the other - will open before you the grandeur and beauty of mountain landscapes.

The old monastery of St. Dionysius, one of the revered saints, is located in the gorge of Olympus at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. The very buildings of the monastery are permeated with the ideas of the monk, who during his lifetime preached the unity of man with nature and the rejection of worldly vanity. The majestic buildings, hidden under the cliffs of the sacred mountain, fascinate and give visitors peace.

Meteora is a place where God’s providence meets a unique natural landscape. Where the strength of the human spirit and the desire for knowledge led to the triumph of creation and harmony.

Medieval Orthodox monasteries of Meteora, located on the steep cliffs of the Thessaly Plain, are rightly considered one of the most significant historical, Orthodox and cultural sites in Greece.
