The bell tower of St. Nicholas Church in Kiliomenos
Koiliomenos, Zakinthos, Greece
Description:
One of the main attractions of the city of Kiliomenos is the unique four-tiered bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas. It is divided with the temple by a small street, so they look like two different buildings, and made in completely different styles. At the heart of the bell tower is a square, and its base consists of four high floors, on the third - you can admire two beautiful arches in the Baroque style, and on the last - numerous stucco moldings in the style of classical empire. Also on the third floor once planned to make a small balcony, but then abandoned the idea, deciding that it would spoil the aesthetic appearance of the building. Therefore, only a small iron fence remained from the idea, which was to serve as a support for the annex.
On festive days, the bell tower of the Church of St. Nicholas pleases residents and guests of the city not only with its delightful view, but also with the melodious ringing of bells, spreading for many tens of meters. In 2014, local authorities plan to overhaul the building, especially its 4th floor.
