Carioca Island
Description:
Carioca Island is located in the archipelago of the Grenadines, which are located in the southeast of the Caribbean. Sometimes the islands are also called the Lesser Antilles, by analogy with the Greater Antilles located in the same part of the sea. The island is part of the state of Grenada as a dependent territory and by area it occupies the third place among the islands of the archipelago. Around the island are picturesque coral reefs, which are very popular among lovers of scuba diving.
A little more than six thousand residents live here, but during the tourist season, hotels and villas of Carioca receive more guests from all over the world. The island of Carioca is famous for its marina, located in a quiet and protected harbor. The local population consists mainly of descendants of African slaves who were forcibly brought here during colonial times.
One of the features of Carioca are the different faiths of the locals, based on traditional African teachings with an admixture of Christianity. Christian holidays here are accompanied by colorful ritual processions, to see which is a great luck for travelers. Unique culture, long sandy beaches and a quiet idyll of rustling sea waves make the holiday on the island bright and unforgettable.
