Pti Martinica Island
Description:
The island of Petit Martinique is the smallest island in Grenada, in fact, it is just the top of a volcano towering above the water. On the eve of Lent, the Carnival of Petit Martinique is held on the island, and on Easter there is a two-day regatta. The island is also famous for its sea fishing, which attracts fans of sports fishing.
This miniature island is located 5 kilometers northeast of the island of Carriacou. The area of the island is about 2.5 square kilometers. The island was inhabited by French settlers in the early seventeenth century. The main source of income of the islanders is the sea, where fish are caught. The inhabitants of the island still speak French, or rather its Caribbean dialect of Patua.
Since the island is small, there are no major attractions on it. But tourists are offered to climb to the top of a long-dormant volcano, from where a majestic panorama of the ocean and nearby islands opens.
The island has its own school, church, boarding house and shop with a bar, which in itself is quite rare for such a small island. There are no police, customs and banks on the island.
