Ninooba (The Blessed Death of Saint Nino)

Description:

Saint Nino.
In Georgia, January 27 is celebrated Ninoba - St. Nino's Day, which brought Christianity to Georgia. The Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates St. Nino twice a year: on January 27, the day of her death, and June 1, the day of her arrival in Georgia.

Only in the capital of Georgia there are five temples of St. Nino, where the festival of Ninaoba is celebrated especially solemnly. Solemn services on this day are held in all other Orthodox churches of the country.

In Tbilisi, in the Zion Cathedral of the Assumption of the Mother of God, a cross of grapevine is kept, entwined with the hair of St. Nino.

In Georgia, Saint Nino is revered as an enlightener and patron saint of Georgia. Every summer, a large group of children, teenagers and youth make a pilgrimage in the footsteps of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Enlightener of Georgia. The route fully corresponds to the route of Saint Nino after her arrival in Georgia.
