Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Tsalendzhikha
Description:
The medieval Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which is located in Tsalenjikh, is unique in that it has an unusual cycle of frescoes in its interior, which were once painted by the master Manuel Eugeneikos, invited from Byzantium.
Tsalenzhikha Cathedral is a cross-domed temple. There are three arcade galleries. The church has a two-storey bell tower and even an underground passage.
The painting in the temple is an amazing example of the late Paleologovo Renaissance. The theme of the frescoes is interesting and unusual. The fact is that such themes were not inherent in Georgian medieval painting.
You can get to the temple from Zugdidi to Tsalendzhikhe by car. The highway goes through the city, you need to drive to the river and cross it over the bridge, after which you will see three roads. You can get to any of them.
