The village of Stepantsminda (aka Kazbegi) is located at the foot of the Gergetsky hill, at the top of which stands the majestic temple of Trinity, built in the XIV century. It is one of three Georgian churches that have the right to accept the cross of St. Nino, who baptized Georgia in the IV century. This tradition is a memory that during the troubled Middle Ages, during major raids, when eastern Georgia was threatened by invaders, the cross of St. Nino was taken to Kazbegi to save the cult artifact from the enemy. Most likely, the road along which this cross passed, and therefore got its name. We reach the top of the Gergetsk temple. This is the culmination of our tour - next to us is a brilliant monument of medieval Georgian architecture, under us the village of Kazbegi, and above us the snow-covered peak of the five-thousandth of Kazbegi.
