Okatse Canyon and Kinchha Falls
Description:
For lovers of picturesque natural landscapes, adventures and thrills, we offer the route of Okatse canyon and Kinchha waterfalls. These wonders of nature, which took more than a million years to create, fascinate and delight in the power of nature. The most convenient way to the Okatse canyons, located in Imereti in the Honsky municipality in the area of the Alpine plateau of Ashi, is to get from Kutaisi.
The canyon is divided into upper and lower. We will get to the lower canyon in comfortable road conditions, the canyon is landscaped for tourists and opened in September 2014. The canyon is located in the gorge of the Okatse River, the source of which is at Mount Askhi (2440 m), there are streams passing underground and forming karst caves in the course of movement. The length of the river is 14 km, large boxwood trees grow on the lime soil of the canyon, the banks of the gorge are covered with shrub. To the canyon leads a picturesque trail through the fabulous forest, which was laid as a park by the princes of Dadiani in the XVIII century, where they built their summer residence. Unfortunately, the architectural ensemble of the residence has not been preserved to this day, but at the moment restoration work is actively underway on the preserved archival documents.
The route to the canyon will be about 2.2 km with descents and ascents against the backdrop of marvelous natural landscapes. After us expect a thrill hanging along the cliffs of the canyon cantilever path length of 600 meters and observation deck. A walk on suspension bridges is of course a little extreme, in places the height of the canyon reaches 180 m, but it will give incomparable emotions and an exciting panoramic spectacle. Allow yourself to break away from reality, and you will not walk, but hover over the abyss of crystal clear stormy waters of Okatse surrounded by intricate reliefs of rocks.
After visiting the canyon, we transfer to the SUV and go to the village of Kinchha to the waterfalls, which the locals call the twins, this is the upper canyon (1020 m above sea level). Here we are waiting for immersion in a cloud of rainbow water dust enveloping the gorge of the waterfall, and the glow of snow-white, shimmering in the sunlight of the riverbed. This place is still little known by tourists. According to local residents, in the spring during the melting of glaciers, the number of streams flowing from the rocks increases to four or six.
At the foot of the waterfall in the shade of trees reigns refreshing cool mountain Okatse and the triumph of snow-white fonts created by nature in white polished stones of the canyon. The eye appears fabulously idealistic picture. The height of the waterfalls of Kinchha is about 100 m, their throwing water in the hollow forms a small lake, from which the flow of water leaves even lower by a second cascade, here the height is about 50 m.
This is an amazing opportunity to see the beauty of the snow-white canyon. The harmony of the unmade unity of the turbulent mountain river with transparent water, rocks and waterfalls leave an indelible impression.
Experience the excitement and riot of vivid emotions from the power of nature beyond the control of man!
