Svaneti - the edge of towers and high mountains
Description:
Once Upper Svaneti was the most inaccessible region of Georgia, but even then it was said that those who were not in Svaneti, did not see the real Georgia! Times change and now there is a good road to Svaneti, accessible at any time of the year.
The trip to Svaneti can last from two days (Mestia only) - up to two to three months if you decide to live in a mountain village or go several mountain routes.
Here I will list the main places that you and I can visit. In fact, there are many more - you can specify when ordering a tour, based on your interests.
Mestia. The historic villages of Lagami, Lanchvali and Lehtagi are Svan towers, fortress houses. The Museum of History and Ethnography is an extensive collection of ancient icons, books, household items. I can take both a short tour of the museum and a long tour, almost for the whole day, if you are interested in iconography or ethnography and the day will be rainy =) the old Svansky residential complex of the Margiani family (ethnography), the house-museum of the climber Mikhail Hergiani. And temples with frescoes IX - XVII centuries.
From Mestia, you can go to the lake or Mount Coruldi, to the Chalaadi glacier, through the picturesque alpine meadows to the communities of Becho and Mulahi, ride a rope or swing in Heshkili.
Ushguli is the highest mountain community of Upper Svaneti. It is located at an altitude of 2200 meters. Ushguli translates as “fearless heart.” Here the buildings of the IX-X centuries are well preserved, and this is a real paradise for an ethnographer, because the way of life in Svan houses has not changed for centuries.
Lamaria Monastery is a temple of the Virgin of the X century with ancient frescoes.
Ethnographic Museum, located in a private house of the XVI century, the Museum of Icons is a Svan tower, inside which there is a collection of ancient Svan icons.
From Ushguli, trekking to the glacier of Mount Shhara is possible.
In the summer in Svaneti you can go one of the most famous Georgian hiking routes - from Mestia to Ushguli. The distance is about 58 km. The trail passes through the Alpine zone. Every day there are stunning panoramas of the snow-capped peaks of the Main Caucasus Range. The route is ideal for connoisseurs of mountain landscapes, and lovers of moderate pedestrian load.
Adishi village
Adishi is one of the most interesting and ancient villages of mountain Svaneti. From here they go to the glacier or climb to Mount Tetnuldi, but there is no good road. Adisha is interested in her isolation. It is like a small civilization of its own.
