Kopitnari Airport
Description:
David Agmashenebeli Kopitnari Airport, renovated and opened in 2012, is equipped with innovative navigation and weather systems, and its runway is 2,600 meters long.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili took part in the opening of the airport. The first passenger flight from this airport was performed by the Ukrainian airline to Kyiv. In the near future it is planned to open flights to Minsk, Belgium and Germany. After the reconstruction of the airport, it was awarded category A. The airport has an observation tower 58 meters high, which is considered the tallest in Eastern Europe.
In August 2008, the airport came under fire from Russian planes in the Georgian-South Ossetian armed conflict, so the airport's runway was slightly damaged.
