Tour of Mtskheta - Gori - Uplistsikhe
Description:
Our tour begins at 9.00 - 10.00.
We will travel from Tbilisi to the ancient capital of Georgia Mtskheta – a holy place for every Georgian. Such a number of holy and religious places as in Mtskheta, located 20 km from Tbilisi, no more in the whole of Georgia. This ancient city is called the “Second Jerusalem”. It was here that Saint Nino of Cappadocia brought the good news, here one of the greatest shrines of the Christian world - Heaton of the Lord is stored. This also explains the status of Mtskheta as a holy city, where Christian pilgrims and tourists from all over the world flock. The main objects that attract tourists and pilgrims: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the most ancient and revered temples - and the ancient picturesque monastery of Jvari - unique and striking examples of religious architecture of the medieval Caucasus. In Mtskheta there is an active women's monastery Samtavro (XI century), in which King Mirian and his wife Nana are buried - the first to be baptized by the Christian faith from St. Nino in 337.
Then we will go to Gori, which is located at the confluence of the Kura and Liakhi rivers in the picturesque Kartli valley. From the south and west the city is surrounded by picturesque mountains. Despite the fact that the city has been known in historical sources since the VI century, it was brought worldwide fame by the name of the “Father of the Peoples” Joseph Dzhugashvili, better known as Stalin, who led the Soviet Empire from 1922 to 1953. By the way, the countrymen of the great dictator respect and respect him in every possible way. Even the main street is still named after him – Stalin Avenue. The main attraction of the town is the House-Museum of Stalin, built in the form of a marble sarcophagus and with a sculpture of Stalin in front of it, one of the few preserved in the world. Everywhere in Gori there are traces of trembling attitude towards his great countryman.
In the vicinity of Gori there are many interesting monuments, the most famous of which is the cave town of Uplistsikhe. From afar, this quaint rocky city fascinates with its unusual view. Like giant pores on the rocks gaping cave grottoes, inside which once boiled life. There were once huge majestic halls, temples, dwellings, connected by winding streets-corridors. It is hard to believe that this grandiose titanic work of creating an entire city from a stone firmament is the work of human hands.
